I remember it clear as day.
The first time a new client told me: “I don’t know why I’m struggling with my weight.”
She followed this by saying: “I don’t even eat anything during the day. I just drink a few coffees.”
My dear woman – THAT is why you are struggling with your weight. You’re not eating.
What does your typical day’s menu look like?
I always ask my clients to give me a breakdown of what a typical day’s meals consist of. So let’s look at what her days’ meals looked like. She reported that she skips breakfast, she does not take lunch to work, and she only has three “Grande size” cappuccinos during the day. She is a lawyer, and their office is close to a Starbucks café. She said this with a tinge of pride for how little she eats during the day.
I explained to her…
It’s not how much you eat, but what you eat
To her it might not seem like much, but in the “world of kilojoules” three Grande cappuccinos are equal to 5,88 slices of bread! I don’t know about you, but to me this equates to “eating/ drinking a significant amount of food”…
The fact that people are not aware of the kilojoules they are consuming, is not because they don’t care, or are in denial. Most people are not educated or even informed about “how eating works”. By this I mean, people don’t understand the concept of “what is a kilojoule and how does it affect my weight”.
The world of kilojoules and your weight
The energy we need to function is measured in kilojoules (like a car needs petrol, and petrol is measured in litres). If you consume more kilojoules than your body needs, it will be stored as fat, and that is a fact.
A new world will open by simply understanding the kilojoule concept. Suddenly, things like why last winter’s clothes aren’t fitting anymore will just make more sense!
A fixation on the amount of food we eat without understanding how these foods affect your weight will leave you frustrated and battling with your weight, like our lawyer that lived on cappuccinos.
